Regulations & Compliance – Home Movers
Regulations & Compliance – Home Movers Malaysia
Why We Follow Official Guidelines
At Home Movers, we operate in full compliance with Malaysian customs and international relocation regulations to ensure a smooth, safe, and legal relocation process for all our clients, whether moving within Malaysia or internationally. Below are some of the key regulations and standards we follow.
Important Regulatory Standards and Our Compliance
Customs documentation and declarations
All shipments, whether household goods, personal effects, or vehicles, are processed in accordance with the export and import requirements set by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department. According to its regulations, all goods imported or exported must be declared on a prescribed form with a full and accurate packing list, description of contents, value, weight, and origin or destination.
Duty-free import of used household goods and personal effects under conditions
Used personal and household items belonging to returning Malaysians or expatriates are eligible for duty-free clearance, provided they have been owned for a sufficient period and are intended as part of a change of residence. Our packing and moving procedures are aligned with these guidelines to ensure proper documentation, including detailed packing lists, airway bills or bills of lading, and proof of ownership or permits for duty-free shipments. More information is available from the Malaysian Customs Guide on Personal Effects.
Vehicle shipping and import compliance
For clients relocating vehicles, we follow regulations requiring import permits as stipulated by the Malaysian Road Transport Department (JPJ). Vehicles included in international moves are declared properly with the necessary paperwork to comply with Malaysia’s import and export rules.
Adherence to international moving standards
For international relocations and shipping of household effects, we follow globally recognized procedures as recommended by the FIDI Global Alliance. This includes submission of full documentation, secure packing, and customs-ready shipments.
Transparent documentation for clients
Every client receives a complete packing list, shipment inventory, and customs declaration. This enables clients to comply with customs requirements and facilitates smooth clearance at ports and entry points. Transparency ensures that goods are declared correctly, avoiding delays or customs issues.
What This Means for Our Clients
Clients can trust that their move, whether local or international, is handled by professionals aware of and complying with Malaysian customs laws.
For used household goods or personal effects, if the eligibility criteria are met, duty-free import is possible. We assist clients with documentation to support the process.
Shipment of vehicles and special items is managed properly to meet customs and import regulations, avoiding surprises at clearance.
International moves follow best practices recommended by global relocation standards, providing peace of mind regarding safety, legality, and smooth handling.
How Home Movers Implements Compliance
Pre-shipment checklist
We prepare a complete inventory, packing list, and documentation required by customs, including passport or permit copies and bills of lading or airway bills.
Customs-friendly packing and labeling
All items are packed, labeled, and described clearly to ensure that customs inspections, if any, do not lead to delays.
Proper declarations and paperwork submission
We submit customs forms with accurate descriptions, origin and destination details, value and weight, and packing information.
Optional insurance and secure transport
For added safety and compliance, we offer insurance for shipments and secure transport and logistics, especially for international moves and vehicle shipping.
Client support for clearance
We guide clients on the required documents and regulations, such as proof of ownership duration for duty-free import and vehicle permits, so customs clearance at arrival is straightforward.
